Nine Arrested in Delta State Over Killings of Police Officers – IGP Egbetokun

In a significant development, nine individuals have been apprehended in Delta State in connection with the killings of police officers in the Ughelli area.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed the arrests during a force management meeting held on Thursday.
According to the police chief, the arrested suspects are currently providing valuable information that could lead to the apprehension of others responsible for the heinous crimes.
The tragic incident that prompted the arrests occurred on February 23, 2024, when six police officers were brutally killed at Ohoro forest in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Despite the arrests, six other suspects linked to the killings remain at large, intensifying the ongoing efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
These killings occurred amidst heightened security concerns in Delta State, as 17 military personnel were also murdered during a peace mission in the Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area around the same time. The loss of these soldiers sparked nationwide outrage and condemnation.
At the burial ceremony for the fallen soldiers, military authorities vowed to spare no effort in tracking down the perpetrators of the attack. They reiterated their commitment to combating criminal activities in the country, despite the challenges they face.
President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to the slain soldiers by posthumously honoring them with national awards and providing scholarships to support the education of their children.
