Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has been elected Vice President of Airports Council International (ACI) Africa at the 34th General Assembly in Lusaka, Zambia.
Her election secures Nigeria a permanent seat on the ACI World Governing Board, which oversees more than 2,100 airports across 169 countries. ACI Africa, with 56 member states, represents the collective interests of airports on the continent, while the World Governing Board sets global benchmarks in aviation safety, innovation, and passenger service.
In her acceptance remarks, Kuku described the election as “an incredible honor” and pledged to champion initiatives that strengthen safety, efficiency, and connectivity across African aviation.
“I am committed to collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that our airports not only meet international standards for safety and efficiency but also serve as critical drivers of economic growth and connectivity for our nations,” she said.
Under her leadership at FAAN, Nigeria’s aviation sector has witnessed infrastructure upgrades, operational reforms, and a growing emphasis on sustainable practices. Her experience in both aviation and finance positions her to drive innovation while tackling critical challenges such as infrastructure gaps and regulatory compliance.
Kuku’s elevation from her previous role as ACI Africa Regional Advisor has been hailed as recognition of Nigeria’s increasing influence in continental aviation. The FAAN delegation, led by Kuku and senior management, played a prominent role in conference deliberations on sustainable growth, strategic collaboration, and the future of African airports.
Industry stakeholders say her election reflects Nigeria’s renewed commitment to raising aviation standards across Africa.
