Nigerians Should Be Allowed To Carry Guns, Says Reps Majority Leader

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, has requested that Nigerians be permitted to carry weapons for self-defense.

This was said by Dogwa on Thursday when commenting on Shehu Balarabe’s motion of urgent public significance.

Balarabe has proposed a resolution in response to the massacre of 150 people in Birni Gwari, Kaduna State.

Ahmed Nasir, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kano State, also urged that the National Security Adviser, Mohammed Monguno, be dismissed of his duties due to the rise in Nigerian killings.

Mr. Monguno, he insisted, should not be an exception if the house could demand the removal of the service heads.

He said: “The only thing I will say is that, if the service chiefs can be changed, I see no reason why he (NSA) cannot be changed.”

Idris Wase, the deputy speaker, who presided over the session blamed the judiciary for not handling the prosecution of bandits speedily.

He said: “I want to beg—we share the concern of what is happening. We asked for the change of service chiefs, they have been changed, what has it changed. Go back to the judiciary. Of all the kidnappers, how many have been prosecuted.”
