Nigerian Governors’ Forum to Host 2024 International Conference on Girl Child Education

The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) is set to host the 2024 International Conference on Girl Child Education from October 10 to 11, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Themed ‘Girl Child Empowerment Through Quality Education’, the conference underscores the NGF’s commitment to tackling challenges faced by girls in Nigeria.

Ebenezer Leo, head of the NGF’s education department, highlighted the launch of the Girl-Child Education Volunteers’ Advocates (GICEVA) initiative. This platform aims to mobilize volunteers across Nigeria to promote education for girls. Additionally, the conference will introduce ambassadors to raise awareness on girl child education among National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.

A key feature of the event will be the signing of a declaration by state education commissioners, committing to support and fund girl child education up to the senior secondary level. This declaration is being developed in partnership with global organizations dedicated to promoting girls’ education.

Panel discussions featuring experts, educators, and activists will address the barriers to girl child education and explore strategies to overcome them. The conference will conclude with a signing ceremony that formalizes the commitment of state commissioners to improving education financing and reinforcing efforts to advance girl child education in Nigeria.

Leo expressed optimism that the conference will lead to tangible outcomes, with the declaration marking a pivotal step in solidifying government support for these initiatives.
