Nigeria Thrash Mozambique 4–0 to Reach AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals

Nigeria secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a commanding 4–0 victory over Mozambique on Tuesday night in Fes.

The Super Eagles asserted their dominance early, with Victor Osimhen having a goal ruled out for offside inside the opening two minutes. Nigeria’s sustained pressure eventually paid off in the 20th minute when Ademola Lookman curled home from Akor Adams’ cutback to give the Super Eagles the lead.

Five minutes later, Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s advantage after Alex Iwobi surged through midfield to release Lookman, whose cross deflected off Adams before Osimhen finished from close range.

Mozambique, featuring in the knockout stage for the first time in their history, struggled to cope with Nigeria’s attacking intensity and offered little threat in response.

Osimhen struck again shortly after the restart, tapping in at the back post from Lookman’s well-weighted delivery from the left to make it 3–0 and complete his brace.

Adams capped an impressive all-round performance in the 75th minute, firing home Nigeria’s fourth goal following another incisive contribution from Lookman.

Motivated by their failure to qualify for the World Cup, the Super Eagles now advance to the last eight, where they will face either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo in a quarter-final clash on Saturday in Marrakesh.

Other confirmed quarter-final fixtures include Mali vs Senegal and Cameroon vs Morocco, while defending champions Ivory Coast face Burkina Faso in the round of 16, with a potential quarter-final meeting against Egypt, who have already secured their place in the next round, as the tournament heads toward an intense climax.
