The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has summoned Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to address allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, subversion, and cybercrime. The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the NPF is handling the investigation.
In a letter dated August 19, 2024, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Adamu S. Mu’Azu, Ajaero is directed to attend an interview at the IRT complex, Old Abattoir near Guzape Junction, Abuja, at 10 a.m. on August 20, 2024.
The letter warned of potential arrest if Ajaero fails to comply, stating: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you were mentioned. You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday 20th August 2024, by 10:00hrs prompt, at IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja… Be informed that in the event of failing to honour this letter, this office will have no alternative but to activate a warrant of arrest against you, please.”
Attempts to reach Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, for comment have been unsuccessful. This summons comes amid rising tensions between the NLC and the Nigeria Police, which have recently included a police raid on the NLC secretariat in Abuja related to alleged sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests.
