The New York Liberty clinched their first WNBA title with a thrilling 67-62 overtime victory against the Minnesota Lynx in Game 5.
Jonquel Jones led the Liberty with 17 points and was named Finals MVP, helping her team win the series 3-2 and deny the Lynx a record fifth championship.
“I could never dream of this,” said Jones. “It’s the biggest moment, and you have to lock in if you want to be a champion. It was all about us winning together because we really love each other.”
Breanna Stewart tied the game with two free throws in regulation, and in overtime, a Leonie Fiebich three-pointer and two more free throws from Stewart sealed the win.
“This is something special, and I’m trying not to cry,” said Stewart, who had 13 points, 15 rebounds, and four assists.
Napheesa Collier led the Lynx with 22 points, while Kayla McBride added 21, but Minnesota fell short in the WNBA Finals for the first time since 2019.
