Ndume Rejects Tinubu 2027 Endorsement, Warns APC Against Public Backlash

Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, has clarified that he was not among those who endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, despite being present at the Presidential Villa when the declaration by All Progressives Congress (APC) governors was made.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Ndume expressed strong reservations about the public endorsement, warning that such declarations may not reflect the actual sentiments of the Nigerian electorate.

“I was there, but that was not why I was there,” Ndume explained. “I was there for a summit, and when I realised that it was not a summit and a voice vote was put about the endorsement of Mr President, I just left. That does not mean I am not an APC member. The majority had its way, but few of us felt that was not right.”

The senator drew historical parallels to the 2015 elections, where 22 governors of the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan. Despite their public support, Jonathan lost the election to Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

“Jonathan had 22 governors then endorsing him, like was done now. And what happened? Jonathan lost woefully,” Ndume remarked.

Cautioning President Tinubu against over-reliance on political endorsements, Ndume highlighted the disconnect between political elites and the general public.

“Things are very bad in the country. Nigerians cannot see any hope; they are doubting the Renewed Hope,” he said.
“A lot of money was spent. Even the election was shifted, but we are not learning our lessons. I pity Mr President.”

Ndume’s comments reflect growing unease among some APC lawmakers amid economic challenges and public dissatisfaction across the country.
