A deadly shooting unfolded at a school in Graz, Austria, on Tuesday, leaving multiple people dead and several others injured, according to local police who spoke to ABC News.
Austrian state police confirmed the fatalities in a statement posted on social media, noting that the incident occurred at the BOR school. Authorities said the response was triggered after gunshots were heard inside the building.
“The reason for the deployment was heard gunshots in the building,” said Styria State Police in a post. “The school was evacuated and all individuals were safely escorted to a designated meeting point.”
A heavy police presence, including Cobra tactical units and multiple emergency vehicles, was dispatched to the scene.
Graz, located in the southern province of Styria, is Austria’s second-largest city with a population of approximately 300,000 residents.
Authorities have not yet released details about the shooter or a possible motive. Investigations are ongoing.
