Morocco Bans New Year’s Eve Celebrations Due To COVID-19 Concerns

As part of stepped-up precautions against increasing coronavirus outbreaks, Morocco placed a ban on New Year’s Eve celebrations on Monday.

On the evening of New Year’s Eve, the government imposed a ban on all types of celebration, including parties at hotels and tourist attractions.

Restaurants and cafes were ordered to close at 11.30 p.m., and a curfew was imposed from midnight to 6:00 a.m. on January 1.

Morocco reported its first incidence of the new coronavirus Omicron strain on December 15.

Following a partial reopening of borders, they will be closed again starting on Thursday to prevent the spread of the highly contagious variant.

Special repatriation flights for ex-pats trapped in the country would be organized by the authorities.
