Momodu Blames PDP’s Woes on Alleged APC Plot to Destabilize Opposition

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has attributed all the challenges confronting the party to an alleged scheme by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the opposition.
Momodu made this assertion during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, accusing the APC of orchestrating efforts to weaken and dismantle the opposition.
“APC will do everything possible to destroy opposition; buy those who are buyable, to terrorize those who are not buyable and make sure that the party is in disarray, that is all,” Momodu said.
According to Momodu, the APC is employing various tactics to destabilize the opposition, including coercion, intimidation, and financial inducements. He claimed that the ruling party’s agenda is to sow discord within the PDP ranks and render it ineffective.
The PDP stalwart criticized President Bola Tinubu for allegedly suppressing opposition voices despite his previous role as a prominent opposition leader.
“You see part of my admiration for then Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos was the role he played as an opposition leader. But unfortunately, now we have a former opposition leader in government, and they don’t want opposition, it’s an irony,” he said.
The PDP has been grappling with internal turmoil since the fallout of its presidential election primary in 2023, which contributed to its defeat in the general election.
The ongoing crisis has led to resignations from key party members, such as former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Ihedioha cited the party’s failure to effectively fulfill its opposition mandate as one of the reasons for his resignation, a sentiment echoed by Momodu.
The presidential aspirant under the PDP in 2023 insisted that everything going wrong in the PDP which is why it is failing to play the opposition role perfectly is engineered by APC which he claimed has bought over some PDP members to sow seeds of discord.
Despite the challenges, Momodu expressed optimism about the PDP’s ability to overcome its internal divisions and emerge as a formidable opposition force.
According to him, the party’s presidential candidate in 2023, Atiku Abubakar, is already making moves to bring every member of the party together to forge ahead as a strong family.
