During the National Economic Dialogue 2024, hosted by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group in Abuja, Finance Minister Wale Edun reiterated the government’s dedication to making food more accessible and affordable for Nigerians.
He emphasized that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains steadfast in its efforts to reduce inflation.
Edun acknowledged Nigeria’s 25-year journey in democracy and recognized the country’s economic growth despite ongoing challenges.
He stressed the government’s priority of ensuring affordable food for all citizens.
“Democracy might not be the only way to organize a society, but it’s widely accepted as the best,” Edun noted, highlighting the continuous efforts to improve the nation’s democracy. “Today’s dialogue is a step in that direction.”
He also pointed out that overall inflation has begun to decline and assured that the administration is focused on maintaining this positive trend, especially concerning food prices.
“The administration’s immediate goal is to increase the availability of affordable food,” Edun stated. Although the National Bureau of Statistics recently reported a drop in Nigeria’s inflation rate to 33.40 percent in July, many Nigerians still face high costs of goods and services, reflecting the ongoing economic challenges.
