The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has accused critics of President Bola Tinubu’s reforms of acting out of jealousy and described them as enemies of Nigeria.
Speaking on Friday during an investigative public hearing by the Senate Committee on Works in Abuja, Umahi assured that the ongoing reforms initiated by President Tinubu would reposition the economy for growth in due time. He noted that leaders across various sectors understand the reforms and are working collectively to actualize them.
Addressing criticisms surrounding the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, Umahi dismissed them as envy-driven, stating, “Mr. President had this dream of making Nigeria better for the past 25 years as a governor, and now God has given him the opportunity to serve the country and actualize his dream, so he has no choice but to perform.”
Umahi commended Tinubu for continuing projects initiated by his predecessor, describing it as a rare quality in leadership. He added that Tinubu’s efforts are reshaping the nation positively, even within the short time since he assumed office.
He emphasized that critics need to stop being overly suspicious and understand the significance of the coastal road project, which he described as a catalyst for the growth of every state in the country.
Explaining the technical aspects of the project, Umahi revealed that the road’s diversion at the 16-kilometer mark was due to the presence of an African communication cable from the ocean. He added that the route was reconnected at kilometer 26 to prevent potential complications experienced in the past.
