Mele Kyari, the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL), has strongly denied reports alleging that he was detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement posted on his verified X handle, Kyari described the reports as “clear mischief” and accused the newspaper and its sponsors of attempting to tarnish his reputation. He stated that he is fully prepared to account for his actions during his tenure, emphasizing that, as a devoted Muslim, he believes he will answer to Allah for his deeds.
Kyari further expressed concern that such disinformation could harm Nigeria’s credibility, particularly with foreign investors. He also shared that he is currently enjoying a well-deserved rest after the dissolution of NNPCL’s management and board.
“I have been inundated with calls from concerned family and friends over the claims. This is a calculated attempt with an unknown agenda,” Kyari wrote.
