Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said efforts are ongoing to form a coalition aimed at defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Melaye made the statement in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, declaring: “Coalition talk is on. Tinubu must go.”
His comment comes amid renewed efforts by opposition political parties to forge a common front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The coalition, operating under the aegis of G100, is spearheading plans for a National Opposition Summit where opposition parties are expected to develop a coordinated strategy ahead of the polls.
The group has also proposed a Government of National Competence anchored on a single four-year transition term as part of a broader framework for cooperation among opposition parties.
The opposition coalition efforts follow the APC’s 2015 victory over the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which brought President Muhammadu Buhari to power and ended the PDP’s 16-year hold on the presidency.
Melaye’s latest comment adds to growing calls within opposition circles for parties and political actors to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.
