Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the new National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The election, which took place on Saturday at the NURTW Zonal Secretariat in Osun State, saw MC Oluomo run unopposed. Delegates from Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti states participated in the election, which was held during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference.
Aliyu Issa-Ore, the acting National President, oversaw the election and confirmed that it adhered to the Union’s constitutional guidelines. He was represented by Adedamola Salam, the Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja. The election procedure mandates that the national president be chosen by the zone holding the position.
In addition to MC Oluomo’s election, Tajudeen Agbede was appointed Vice President for the Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was selected as a trustee for the region. After taking his oath of office, MC Oluomo urged union members to foster unity and peace, emphasizing the importance of preserving the union’s integrity. “We will not allow anyone to threaten our livelihood,” he declared, calling for forgiveness from those who had wronged him and offering the same to others.
