Passengers are being advised to avoid Manchester Airport following a “major” power cut that has disrupted numerous flights. The outage, which occurred in the early hours, has impacted baggage and security systems in Terminals 1 and 2.
The airport, the largest in the UK outside London, is experiencing large queues. More than ten outbound flights have been cancelled and inbound flights diverted, with further disruptions anticipated throughout the day.
An airport spokesman stated that passengers flying via Terminal 3 should proceed to the airport as usual but may face delays.

A spokesman for Manchester Airport announced that flights for passengers already at the airport would be prioritized as efforts to “work through that backlog” continued. The number of cancellations displayed on the airport’s departure board is expected to increase until at least mid-afternoon.
The airport said that inbound flights were being diverted because “planes can’t take off” due to limited space. This situation has made it more difficult to accommodate incoming aircraft, which are being redirected to other locations.
