Makinde Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP, Denounces Opposition Coalition Talks

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared his firm commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), distancing himself and the Southwest caucus from any opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Friday during a PDP Southwest caucus meeting at the Olusoji Adagunodo Zonal Secretariat in Ibadan, Makinde dismissed coalition talks as unserious political distractions and reaffirmed the PDP’s position as the most stable and credible platform in the region.

“We reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to the PDP and our commitment to the unity, stability, and progress of the party at all levels,” he stated.

Responding to reports of realignment among opposition figures, Makinde questioned the credibility of coalition members, suggesting they bring nothing new to the table.

“Who are these people in the coalition? They’ve all been in either the PDP or APC. Have they changed? What new ideas do they bring?”

He likened the PDP to a leaking house that requires repairs not desertion.

“This building here is PDP’s Southwest house. If the roof is leaking, we won’t run away we’ll fix it. We’re responsible leaders who care about the people.”

The meeting also condemned the alleged withholding of Osun State’s local government allocations by the federal government, calling it an assault on constitutional rights.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, also reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP and dismissed rumours linking him to any opposition coalition.

A communiqué issued by Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, praised Makinde and Adeleke’s leadership and confirmed the party’s readiness to contest and win upcoming bye-elections in Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States.

“The PDP in the Southwest is united and intact. We are not part of any reported coalition,” the statement read.

The party also expressed alarm over Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and economic hardship under the APC-led government, urging citizens to keep faith with the PDP as the nation’s hope for rescue in 2027.

“The 2027 elections will be a contest between Nigerians and the APC,” the communiqué concluded.
