Former Oyo State PDP Chairman and current Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Kunmi Mustapha, has declared that Governor Seyi Makinde possesses the vision, courage, and leadership capacity to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.
Speaking in Ibadan on Thursday during the sixth anniversary of the Makinde administration, Mustapha praised the governor’s performance as “visionary and transformative,” asserting that his record places him among Nigeria’s most competent leaders.
“Makinde has distinguished himself as a brave man who exhibits uncommon leadership traits. There has not been any politician in Yorubaland, apart from Pa Obafemi Awolowo, who has had a vision for the development of the masses and put all his heart into actualizing those visions,” he stated.
Mustapha highlighted the governor’s achievements across multiple sectors, including urban renewal, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and social welfare. He noted that Makinde has consistently prioritized the well-being of workers, youths, and the elderly since assuming office in 2019.
“From agroeconomic initiatives to improved workers’ welfare, massive employment drives, and care for the elderly, Makinde has shown that governance can be both compassionate and effective,” he said.
On the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mustapha dismissed speculation that the party is in decline, expressing confidence in its ability to reclaim power in the 2027 general elections.
“The PDP is not dead. The present internal issues do not mean we cannot snatch power come 2027. Nigerians are waiting for true leaders who understand their suffering and are ready to serve and Governor Makinde fits that mold.”
He urged Nigerians to shun politicians who exploit public office for personal gain and instead rally behind leaders genuinely committed to the people’s welfare.
Mustapha also lauded the efforts of key PDP figures Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Deputy National Chairman (South) Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, and Chief Bode George for their work in repositioning the party ahead of 2027.
“Come rain or shine, we commit our loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde. We urge him to start work towards 2027 because Nigerians are waiting for him to rescue them,” he concluded.
