Suffolk County officials have revealed that a significant drug trafficking bust in Bellport uncovered enough fentanyl to “kill everyone on Long Island.” The operation led to the arrest and indictment of 43-year-old Remon Gibson, after authorities seized 33 pounds of narcotics from his Sunburst Lane home on September 25, including 15 pounds of fentanyl and 17.5 pounds of cocaine.
“The quantity of deadly narcotics seized in this bust is staggering,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney. “There was enough fentanyl here to kill every man, woman, and child on Long Island. This case highlights our unwavering commitment to dismantling drug operations that endanger our communities.”
Along with the drugs, authorities confiscated $80,000 in cash, a drug ledger, and kilo presses, one of which was stamped “COVID 19” and used for compressing bricks of fentanyl and cocaine. A large amount of fentanyl was allegedly discovered on a nightstand in Gibson’s bedroom, located next to a room where his two children slept. Cocaine was also reportedly hidden behind a backyard shed in a trap compartment.
Gibson was arraigned on multiple charges Wednesday, including operating as a major trafficker, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminally using drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held on $200,000 cash bail, an $800,000 bond, or a $2,000,000 partially secured bond.
Gibson’s attorney, George Duncan, released a statement to Eyewitness News, stating, “My client maintains his innocence. We look forward to defending the allegations in the courtroom. We will evaluate the discovery to see if it supports the claims made by the district attorney.”
