Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to expel key figures, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; and former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, for allegedly working against the party during the 2023 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Lamido urged the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) to “wield the big stick” against members who, according to him, openly campaigned for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“All those erring members, the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus and others, who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections, and who say that they are going to work for the APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party,” Lamido said.
He accused the party of tolerating a “culture of impunity” for over 18 months, in violation of its constitution, and announced that he would boycott Board of Trustees meetings until decisive disciplinary action is taken.
The PDP’s NWC, in a separate statement on Friday, warned members against endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 elections, stressing that such actions amount to anti-party behaviour and are unconstitutional.
Lamido also urged the PDP to rally behind former President Goodluck Jonathan as its 2027 presidential candidate, describing him as the party’s “best bet” due to his experience, collaborative approach, and governance record.
“I think for PDP now they should try to woo him [Jonathan]; he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him,” he said, adding: “If we are giving the presidency to the South, who is there in PDP now that can challenge Jonathan in terms of experience and partnership?”
Although Jonathan has yet to indicate interest in returning to the PDP or contesting the presidency, speculation over his possible comeback has intensified amid reports of quiet lobbying within the party.
