Evans and his co-defendants, Uchenna Amadi and Okuchuwkwu Nwachukwu were sentenced on Friday by Justice Hakeem Oshodi after being convicted on two charges of conspiracy and kidnapping of Duru.
Evans’ guilt was proven by the video evidence presented against him at the court, according to the judge, he said, “He was seen freely laughing and willingly answered questions. A close look at his body shows no sign of torture. He did not look unkempt. He is seen laughing even when he was told that he must be a rich kidnapper.
“He showed no remorse in the dock and tried to lie his way out of the crimes despite the video evidence.”
Given the lack of evidence linking Ogechi Uchechukwu and two former Nigerian Army troops, Chilaka Ifeanyi and Victor Aduba, to the crime, the court dismissed and acquitted them.
Evans and his co-defendant were charged by the Lagos State Government with kidnapping Donatus Dunu, the Managing Director of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Limited, on February 14, 2017.
Evans is also facing similar charges before the same court’s Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo and Justice Adedayo Akintoye.
