Labour Party Responds To Atiku’s Call For Opposition Merger To Unseat APC

The Labour Party (LP) has expressed its support for the call made by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, urging opposition parties to unite and unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), proposed the idea of a merger during a meeting with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) at his Abuja residence on Monday.
He cautioned against the risk of Nigeria becoming a one-party state.
In response to this proposition, the acting National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Obiora Ifoh, spoke in an interview with The Punch on Wednesday. Ifoh described Atiku’s suggestion as a positive one that warrants serious consideration.
He emphasized, “Atiku’s call is a proposition, and every Nigerian will consider a good proposition that is meant to remove the Octopus in power because they are not democrats. Every Nigerian is interested in having a true democracy.
What we have now is far away from democracy. So, if there is a proposition by opposition elements to ensure that democracy is installed, why not? That proposition must be given a good thought. Anything that will make Nigerians witness democracy is accepted.”
