Labour Party Denies Zoning 2027 Presidential Ticket to South-East

The Labour Party has dismissed claims that it has zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South-East.

In a statement issued on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, clarified that the party has not and will not allocate any of its positions to a particular region or individual.

The clarification follows reports suggesting that the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, had indicated a South-East zoning. However, Ifoh explained that Abure was misquoted and that his comments only encouraged unity among Ndigbo while reaffirming the Labour Party as a strong platform for national aspirations.

“Labour Party is a national party with large followership across the country, and the issue of zoning does not arise. Candidates for every position must emerge through highly competitive and democratic processes,” Ifoh stated.

He emphasized that the party’s performance in the 2023 elections, winning seats in both northern and southern states, proves its national appeal.

Ifoh also expressed appreciation for the public’s concern over the misinformation, saying it reflects the strong support Nigerians have for the party.

“We urge Nigerians to continue to have faith in the Labour Party as we work toward repositioning the country and making democracy work again,” he added.
