The Asari-Toru Local Government chapter of the Labour Party in Rivers State has refuted claims of suspending the state’s caretaker chairman, Hilda Dokubo.
Earlier reports on Friday alleged that Hilda had been suspended by her Ward 3 and Asari-Toru LGA over accusations of financial misconduct and breaches of party regulations.
However, the Asari-Toru LGA Labour Party Caretaker Committee, led by Horsfall Mac-Jay, issued a statement at its executive meeting affirming that Hilda remains the party’s chairman in the state. The committee urged the public to dismiss the suspension claims, attributing them to unknown elements with no ties to the party.
The statement reads: “We have been informed that some agents of discord have made baseless claims about our state chairman’s suspension by individuals not recognized in our party’s membership register in Asari-Toru. We urge the public to ignore these unfounded claims, as Madam Hilda Dokubo is a person of high reputation and integrity, a defender of Asari-Toru’s interests. No true member of Asari-Toru would make such a cowardly move. “Hilda Dokubo remains our party chairman with the full support of Ward 3 and Asari-Toru LGA.”
