Kremlin Confirms Tentative Plan for Trump Envoy Steve Witkoff — and Possibly Jared Kushner — to Visit Moscow Amid Peace Push

A senior Kremlin official says there is an initial agreement for U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to travel to Moscow next week—potentially joined by Jared Kushner—as both countries signal movement toward a possible framework to end the war in Ukraine.

Yury Ushakov, President Vladimir Putin’s top foreign policy adviser, confirmed the development in an interview aired Wednesday on the program “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”

“As for Witkoff, a preliminary agreement has been reached for his visit next week,” Ushakov said. He added that Russia expects additional members of Trump’s negotiating team to accompany him, noting, “We have agreed to meet with Mr. Witkoff… and then we will begin discussions.”

Ushakov also said Witkoff would “definitely” meet with President Putin if the trip goes ahead.

The remarks followed a Bloomberg report citing leaked audio of an alleged call between Witkoff and Ushakov, in which Trump’s envoy appeared to offer advice on how Putin should present Moscow’s peace proposals to Trump. Ushakov did not deny the call took place but refused to discuss its contents, saying all talks with Witkoff are confidential.

He suggested the leak was likely aimed at disrupting the fragile diplomatic process. “It is unlikely this is being done to improve relations,” he said, denying Russia played any role in releasing the recording.

Ushakov acknowledged he speaks with Witkoff “quite often,” but emphasized that neither side should comment publicly on their discussions.

Trump himself hinted at the trip earlier this week, telling reporters that Witkoff—and possibly Kushner—would be heading to Moscow soon. “They’re going to be meeting with President Putin, I believe, next week,” he said.

The possible visit comes as the White House signals growing momentum behind a U.S.-backed peace framework, though no details have been finalized and key differences between Kyiv and Moscow remain unresolved.
