Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has signed two new revenue laws designed to increase state income, improve tax transparency, and promote economic growth.
The laws are the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (Establishment) Law, 2025 and the Kogi State Taxes and Levies (Approved List for Collection) Law, 2025.
Speaking during the signing on Thursday, Governor Ododo said the laws are technology-driven and digital, aimed at reducing human interference, enhancing accountability, and simplifying tax administration.
“The purpose of these laws is to strengthen our economy, ensure fairness, and protect the dignity of our citizens,” he stated.
Key provisions include:
- Tax exemption for low-income earners: Individuals earning below ₦800,000 annually are exempt from paying taxes.
- Ease of doing business: Simplified processes and lower compliance costs are expected to attract more investment.
- Digitalized administration: Technology-driven tax collection will reduce manual interference and promote transparency.
Governor Ododo emphasized that the laws are intended to support economic reset, harmonize tax processes, and safeguard citizens’ dignity, rather than increase tax burdens.
With this move, Kogi State becomes the first in Nigeria to domesticate the new federal tax laws, aligning state revenue administration with national reforms.
