The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have condemned in strong terms the attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, where bandits killed Hassan Yakubu Makuku, the vice-principal, and abducted 25 students on Monday morning.
In a statement, Ini Ememobong, PDP national publicity secretary, described the attack as reflecting the “alarming rise in insecurity” across Nigeria. He criticised the federal government under President Bola Tinubu, asserting that it has “preferred the politicisation of governance over the protection of citizens.”
Ememobong emphasised that the administration must take responsibility for its failure to secure lives and property, extending condolences to the family of the slain vice-principal, the parents of the abducted students, and the Kebbi State government. He noted that recent abductions in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina states highlight that insecurity “is clearly not the hope promised Nigerians.”
Similarly, Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC national publicity secretary, called the incident “another painful reminder of the worsening insecurity across the country.” He pointed out that the party has repeatedly urged the federal government to confront insecurity with “seriousness and urgency,” but the administration has “turned a blind eye to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.”
Abdullahi warned that the Kebbi abduction must not become a repeat of the Chibok girls’ saga of 2014, adding that a government unable to secure its schools cannot claim credibility on its promise to protect citizens. He urged President Tinubu to ensure the abducted students are rescued “without delay” and called on security agencies to act with “urgency, clarity, and competence,” stressing the importance of deploying intelligence assets and strengthening coordination among security formations.
Earlier, Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, confirmed that President Tinubu has ordered the immediate rescue of the abducted students. “Our security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the students, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice,” Idris said in a statement.
