Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Tie in Historic Dixville Notch Midnight Vote, Kicking Off 2024 Election Day

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied in the symbolic midnight vote in Dixville Notch, marking the official start of the 2024 Election Day.

Reflecting the tight national race, Harris and Trump each received three votes from the six registered voters in Dixville Notch, a small town in northern New Hampshire.

The group of voters included four registered Republicans and two undeclared voters, resulting in a split decision for the presidency.

With more journalists present at the Balsam Resort than voters, the voting process took just under 10 minutes. After the national anthem played, each voter cast their ballot individually, followed by a hand count of the votes, with results written on a whiteboard for all to see.

In the race for New Hampshire governor, Republican candidate Kelly Ayotte received five votes, indicating that Dixville Notch voters chose to split their ballots differently for the state and presidential races.

In previous presidential elections, Dixville Notch has leaned Democratic, giving all five votes to Joe Biden in 2020 and four of seven to Hillary Clinton in 2016.
