Kaduna Electric Resolves Tax Dispute with State Government, Promises Continued Compliance

The Kaduna State Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDC) announced on Monday that it has resolved its tax arrears dispute with the state government.
The disagreement began when the Kaduna Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS) sealed KAEDC’s headquarters on August 2, citing an alleged N600 million in unpaid taxes. KADIRS Executive Chairman Jerry Adams confirmed that the action was taken after obtaining a court order.
In response, KAEDC disconnected power supply to the Government House and other state facilities over an outstanding N2.9 billion debt. However, the situation has since been resolved. According to a statement from the company, multiple meetings between high-ranking officials from KAEDC and the state government led to an agreement.
“As a responsible corporate citizen, Kaduna Electric is committed to continuing to pay its taxes and other state levies and dues as appropriate,” the company stated. Similarly, the Kaduna State Government has pledged to settle the electricity bills of its ministries, departments, and agencies promptly.
Umar Abubakar Hashidu, the Managing Director of Kaduna Electric, expressed gratitude to several key figures for their roles in resolving the conflict. He thanked the state governor, Uba Sani; the Managing Director of Kaduna State Power Supply Company, Idris Aminu Idris; and KADIRS Chairman, Jerry Adams, among others. Hashidu also acknowledged the support of the Board Chairman, Aminu Abubakar Suleiman, and the board directors of Kaduna Electric.
In a social media post on X, Kaduna Electric reiterated its commitment to finding amicable solutions to disputes and providing efficient and reliable services. The company also called for public cooperation as it continues to fulfill its role as a leading utility provider.
