Judge Rejects Diddy’s Bid to Overturn Conviction as Prosecutors Seek 11-Year Sentence

A federal judge has rejected Sean “Diddy” Combs’ attempt to overturn his conviction, clearing the way for the music mogul to be sentenced Friday on two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ motion on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by ABC News. The decision comes as federal prosecutors push for a sentence of at least 11 years, arguing in a memo that Combs remains “unrepentant” and left victims in fear despite being acquitted on more serious charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

“The defendant will not be punished for any crimes of which he was acquitted,” prosecutors wrote. “But punishment for his crimes of conviction must take into account the manner in which he committed them.”

Prosecutors said Combs exercised power and control over the women he transported, citing security footage of Cassie Ventura “bloodied and bruised” during their relationship — abuse they said Combs admitted at trial. They urged the court to hand down a sentence reflecting Combs’ “decades of unchecked violence” and the “psychological, emotional and physical damage” inflicted on victims.

Defense attorneys called the government’s recommendation “draconian,” arguing it amounts to “verdict be damned—lock him up and throw away the key.” They have asked for a sentence of time served.

Combs, who was convicted in July, faces sentencing Friday in a case that has reignited debates over celebrity power and accountability.
