Jimmy Kimmel will return to Jimmy Kimmel Live! today, The Walt Disney Co., parent company of ABC, announced Monday.
“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It was a decision we felt necessary because some of the comments were ill-timed and insensitive,” the company said in its statement. “After several thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, we’ve decided the show will return on Tuesday.”
ABC had initially said on Sept. 17 that the show would be preempted “indefinitely.” The decision followed remarks Kimmel made on-air about the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.
Before ABC’s move, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr publicly called for Kimmel’s suspension. However, unions representing entertainment workers and TV writers condemned the network’s decision, framing it as an overreach.
Kimmel has not made any public comments about the show’s suspension or its return.
