Hollywood power couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage after two years. Lopez officially filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to documents obtained by the BBC.
The couple, famously dubbed “Bennifer” by the media, initially wed in a private Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a larger celebration in Georgia the next month. Their relationship first blossomed in 2003 after meeting on the set of the film ”Gigli”, but they called off their engagement in early 2004. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance.
“Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” Lopez remarked in 2022 following their Las Vegas wedding announcement.
Court documents reveal that Lopez, who had legally taken Affleck’s surname, did not mention any prenuptial agreement in her divorce petition. The filing requires both parties to disclose detailed financial information, including income, expenses, properties, and debts. They must continue to update the court on any financial changes until a final settlement is reached.
Lopez has 60 days to submit her financial disclosure, after which Affleck will have an additional 60 days to respond. Failure to comply could result in court sanctions.
Speculation about the couple’s relationship had been mounting for months. They were recently spotted without their wedding rings and reportedly put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for $65 million (£50 million).
Ben Affleck, a two-time Oscar winner, was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner, whom he met on the set of the 2001 film *Pearl Harbor*. The couple, who have three children together, separated in 2015 after ten years of marriage.
Jennifer Lopez, widely known as J.Lo, has been married four times. Her first marriage was to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998. She later married her former backup dancer Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, and then singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins, from 2004 to 2014.
