JAMB Begins Rescheduled UTME for Nearly 380,000 Affected Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has commenced the rescheduling process for 379,997 candidates affected by technical glitches during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The rescheduled tests are set to take place on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17, 2025.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a press briefing held in Abuja on Wednesday. He revealed that the process has already begun in five Southeast states and Lagos State, where many of the affected centres were located.

Prof. Oloyede, who became emotional while addressing journalists, took full responsibility for the failure of the initial examination process.
“It is our culture to admit errors because we know that in spite of the best of our efforts, we are human; we are not perfect,” he said, visibly wiping away tears.
“Once again, we apologise and assure you that this incident represents a significant setback. We remain committed to emerging stronger in our core values of transparency, fairness, and equity.”

According to JAMB, the disruption was caused by technical issues at 157 of the 887 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide. The glitch reportedly led to widespread poor performance, inconsistencies in questions and answers, and general exam irregularities.

Affected candidates will receive SMS notifications containing their new exam dates and venues. The reprinting of examination slips is already underway, and all necessary logistics have been put in place to ensure a seamless process during the rescheduled UTME.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, JAMB reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and accountability:
“It has been established that a technical glitch affected 157 centres… This was basically responsible for the general low performance of the candidates,” the statement read. Parents and candidates are urged to remain calm and follow the official instructions to ensure full participation in the rescheduled examination.
