An Israeli citizen has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in an Iranian-backed plot to assassinate Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials, according to Israel’s security services. The man, a businessman, allegedly traveled to Iran twice and received payment to carry out various missions.
Israeli police and domestic intelligence reported that the suspect, who lived in Turkey, was smuggled into Iran with the help of Turkish contacts. His targets reportedly included Netanyahu, the defense minister, and the head of the Israeli security agency Shin Bet.
The suspect was arrested last month, following meetings in Turkey with an Iranian businessman named “Eddie” and other operatives. During these meetings, the suspect was allegedly tasked with transferring money, transporting weapons, and photographing crowded areas in Israel for the Iranian regime.
This arrest comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, both long-standing regional adversaries.
