The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has declared Monday, August 21, 2023, a public holiday in observance of the yearly Isese Day.
Lekan Adeniran, his chief press secretary, released a statement on Saturday that included the declaration.
Isese Day is observed by followers of traditional religions to honor Yoruba customs and culture.
The governor said that his decision to award particular recognition to the Isese Day celebration was made in order to honor the culture and traditions of the Ogun people and to maintain harmony and unity among the state’s three main religions.
While acknowledging the peace that exists among followers of all religions in the state, Abiodun reaffirmed his resolve to uphold and respect all religions.
He also expressed the commitment of his administration to promote, preserve and nurture the culture and tradition of our people.
While congratulating the traditional religion worshippers on the occasion, he also urged them to celebrate with decorum and avoid acts capable of threatening the existing peace in the state.
Other Southwest states, including Oyo, Osun and Lagos, had also declared Monday public holidays in order to commemorate the day.
