IPOB Leader, Plans To Take The DSS To Court For Violating Court Order

Despite a court ruling, the Department of State Service (DSS) has denied Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a change of cloth.

Recall that on January 18, 2022, Justice Binta Nyako ordered the DSS to allow the IPOB leader to change his clothes before the next trial date.

Nnamdi Kanu, however, returned to the Federal High Court in Abuja on the 19th wearing the same clothing, causing the trial judge to inquire.

The DSS’s counsel, Labaran, claimed that the pro-Biafra activist refused to change his clothes, but Nnamdi Kanu’s lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, quickly countered him, claiming that his team could not get the IPOB leader new clothes in a short time.

In a statement to newsmen after meeting Nnamdi Kanu on Wednesday, about 24 days after the directive, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, another counsel to the IPOB leader, said his client was not allowed to change his clothes.

He said, “Though, for reasons we were not told, the officials of the DSS rejected for the umpteenth time, the change of clothes brought for him.

“We, however, protested against this obvious violation of court order, and insisted on seeing the Head of the appropriate department to lodge our complaint, but Onyendu advised that we should take up the infractions at the appropriate forum in view of the fact that a positive order of the court was flouted.

“Also, forming part of our demand for explanations is the fact that some other guests that visited Onyendu were not hitherto cleared. Onyendu still insisted that this obvious infraction should be addressed at the appropriate forum because it constitutes a violation of the positive order of the court.

“The visit proceeded smoothly and personal notes were taken of Onyendu’s erudite views/contributions towards a successful outing come 16th day of February 2021.”
