INEC Vows Credible Edo Election Despite Facility Damage

The National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has assured the public of a credible governorship election in Edo State despite recent damage to INEC’s facility caused by a downpour.
During his visit to Benin City to assess the damage and monitor voter registration and PVC collection, Yakubu emphasized that INEC would borrow equipment from neighboring states to ensure a smooth election process.
Accompanied by senior officials, including three National Directors and the State Controller of Works, Yakubu ruled out relocating the facility despite recurrent flooding, stressing the importance of conducting the election from INEC’s premises. He assured that repairs would be completed in time for the election scheduled in three months and three weeks.
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released an updated list of its Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council members, predominantly consisting of governors.
The council is chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Taraba State Governor Kefas Agbu serving as deputy chairmen. Former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, along with other PDP leaders, are also included.
The 144-member council will be inaugurated at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, June 4, as announced by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
