The Independent National Electoral Commission has formally listed Wole Oluyede as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Ekiti State governorship election scheduled for June 20.
The commission also published Ogunsakin Ayodeji as Oluyede’s running mate. Adedayo Oketola confirmed that the decision follows the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Akure.
Earlier, INEC had excluded Oluyede’s name from the list of PDP candidates, but the appellate court, in a ruling on March 12, ordered the commission to recognise him as the party’s standard-bearer. The three-member panel, led by Peter Chudi Obiorah, set aside a Federal High Court decision in Ado-Ekiti, which had nullified the PDP primary.
The court held that the party’s primary, conducted in November by the PDP National Working Committee under Kabiru Turaki, complied with the party constitution and the Electoral Act. Oluyede, a medical expert, secured 279 votes to defeat Funso Ayeni, who received 239 votes.
