In India, authorities have apprehended the manager of a hotel accused of serving dry ice as a mouth freshener to a group of diners. The sugar and spice mix, typically offered post-meal, induced vomiting and bleeding in five individuals who consumed it. Investigations revealed that the packet contained dry ice, a solid form of carbon dioxide commonly used as a cooling agent.
All affected customers required hospitalization. The manager of the restaurant in Gurugram city has been arrested on charges of poisoning with intent to cause harm, while the owner is currently being sought by the police. The incident involved Ankit Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida, and his companions who visited the establishment on Saturday.
Following their dinner, a group of diners at a restaurant was offered a packet of mouth freshener by a waiter. However, upon consuming it, they experienced burning and bleeding in their mouths, coupled with vomiting, according to a statement from the police.
A video circulating on social media captures the customers in pain, some resorting to using ice and water to alleviate the burning sensation. In their complaint, the customers alleged that the restaurant staff refused to assist them.
