Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has pushed the deadline for enforcing the tinted glass permit requirement to October 2, giving the force more time to refine its application and verification processes.
In a statement on Monday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force spokesperson, said the extension will allow for “meticulous scrutiny” of applications to ensure that only eligible persons are granted permits in line with national security considerations.
Adejobi explained that the police are also fine-tuning both digital and physical verification systems “to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”
He urged Nigerians to submit applications exclusively via possap.gov.ng and to report any cases of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorized processing through the hotline 08147818871.
The IGP commended the public for their cooperation, noting that the decision was prompted by a surge in applications through the official portal, reflecting increased compliance.
“In light of this, the Force considers it imperative to allow sufficient time for the meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations,” the statement read.
