On Tuesday, Egbunike, the head of the Special Investigation Panel set up to investigate senior police officer Abba Kyari, slumped and died in his Abuja office.
IGP Baba said Egbunike died on Tuesday night at the National Hospital in Abuja following a brief illness, according to a statement released by the acting Force Public Relations Officer, Olumiyiwa Adejobi.
The death of the senior police officer, according to the police chief, is a huge loss for the country, the Nigeria Police Force, and the security industry in the country.
Egbunike, according to Baba, was a dedicated and experienced police officer who served the country in a number of capacities, including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget.
He, on the other hand, expressed his condolences to the deceased DIG’s immediate family, relatives, and friends, and prayed for his soul’s peace.
The statement reads: “DIG Egbunike was a dedicated and seasoned police officer who served the nation in various capacities including as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Accounts and Budget. An officer with finesse and commitment to intellectual development was instrumental to the achievements of the giant strides within the Police architecture.
“The Inspector-General of Police hereby condoles with the immediate family, relatives, and friends of the deceased DIG who passed away in active service of his fatherland and prays for the repose of his soul.”
