Some gunmen on Monday stopped students at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Nkume, in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, from taking the English Language paper in the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examinations.
It was disclosed that the students were preparing to begin the exam when the attackers struck and chased them away.
While the armed hoodlums shot, students and teachers, including their supervisors, fled. Motorcycles belonging to some of the staff and students of the school were set ablaze. Although there were no reports of casualties.
The source said, “Gunmen came to the school and chased out the students on Monday morning. They shot repeatedly and insisted that no examination would be allowed to go on. They destroyed some motorcycles and shot until the students and teachers ran away.”
A spokesperson for the state police command, Mike Abattam, confirmed the attack, adding that operatives had taken over the area and were hunting the attackers.
