Gunmen have struck again, this time abducting an unspecified number of students who were travelling along the East-West road in Ughelli, Delta State.
The incident occurred on Friday night, with the driver of the vehicle managing to escape unharmed.
According to Edafe Bright, the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, the victims were believed to be students returning from their school in Calabar, Cross River State.
They were abducted from the minibus they were travelling in, raising concerns about their safety and well-being.
Bright stated that no ransom has been demanded yet, but the police have launched a search operation to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The Command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” he assured via his official Twitter handle.
This abduction adds to the growing insecurity in the region, coming on the heels of the recent abduction of students from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in Cross River State.
The three students, according to a source from the school, are Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final year student of the same department.
