Gumi’s Call For Wike’s Removal Baseless – Ugochinyere

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere

Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, has accused Kaduna-based Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi of spreading hate messages about the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

On Thursday, the cleric had, in a video sermon of over 14 minutes posted on his official Facebook page, labelled Wike as “Satan” for receiving the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria in his office, he also called on President Bola Tinubu to remove Wike from office as the FCT minister.

Gumi in the sermon also asserted that President Tinubu would be stopped from serving for eight years. Ugochinyere, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), frowned at the message, saying that Wike did nothing to warrant such utterances from Sheikh Gumi.

The lawmaker stated that the call for Wike’s removal was baseless and coming from a place of hate for Southerners and Christians, and if care is not taken, it might lead to ethnic and religious tension in the country. Ugochinyere also said that the utterances and subtle threats from Gumi must not be brushed under the carpet by security agencies, adding that the call for Wike’s removal was baseless and, at the same time, insulting.
