Emerging political trends have led Egbe Ajosepo Fun Itesiwaju Gbogbo Wa to call for the governorship of Oyo State to rotate away from Ibadan in the 2027 elections. The group cited voter turnout, party membership, and inter-zonal alliances as indicators of shifting political influence.
National Secretary Favour Adewoyin said zoning decisions should reflect political realities rather than sentiment. He noted that advocacy for rotation now spans Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, Oyo, and Ibarapa, beyond Ibadan.
Highlighting the 2023 elections, Adewoyin stated that Oke-Ogun recorded the highest voter turnout at 46.7%, compared with Ibadan’s 22.6%. Other zones—Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Ibarapa—registered 34.4%, 31.7%, and 31.7%, respectively. He added that Ibadan’s 1,778,372 registered voters produced 401,209 votes, while Oke-Ogun’s 651,090 voters cast 305,634 ballots.
Adewoyin stressed that no single zone can secure victory alone, emphasizing the importance of inter-zonal collaboration. He also cited APC electronic membership data, showing Oyo North leading with 56,655 members (37.8%), ahead of Oyo Central’s 51,325 (34.3%) and Oyo South’s 41,788 (27.9%), with Saki West posting the highest local government membership figures.
The group said these figures highlight the need for equitable power rotation, ensuring emerging zones have a meaningful role in shaping Oyo State’s political future.
