Governors Enjoying Financial Boom Under Tinubu – Bwala

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communications to President Bola Tinubu, has said that Nigerian governors are currently experiencing an era of unprecedented financial prosperity under the present administration, likening the moment to an “oil boom.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Wednesday, Bwala stated that none of the 36 state governors is struggling to pay salaries a sharp contrast to past administrations when 27 states were considered bankrupt.

“All the governors in Nigeria are having the best of times. They are experiencing what we call the oil boom in their history,” Bwala said.
“It’s almost an anathema now to talk about unpaid salaries. Any governor in that situation would be looked at like Lucifer.”

He said the current revenue inflow across states is sufficient to fund salaries, minimum wage demands, infrastructure projects, and debt servicing, while still leaving room for future planning.

Bwala’s remarks follow similar sentiments expressed by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, who had earlier praised President Tinubu’s fiscal support to state governments.

“No president in Nigeria’s history has supported governors and sub-national governments the way President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently doing,” Governor Sani had said.

On the rising talks of opposition realignment and coalition building ahead of the 2027 general elections, Bwala dismissed them as “overblown,” stating that while some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members may be part of the discussions, the party’s governors and national leadership remain loyal and intact.

“It’s not a wave. It’s just a few individuals. The PDP as a party is still standing,” Bwala added.

The remarks come amid broader political realignments and renewed debates about fiscal federalism and transparency in revenue distribution.
