Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will complete two terms in office, despite being elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking on Tuesday during the flag-off of the Akwa Ibom segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, Governor Eno declared, “President Tinubu will be here for eight years. We must support this project and align with the national agenda.”
This statement comes amid mounting efforts by opposition figures, particularly former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to form a coalition aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election. Atiku recently met with prominent political leaders, including Peter Obi and former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, to discuss unseating the APC-led government.
However, the PDP has shown signs of internal division. On Monday, the PDP Governors’ Forum issued a public statement distancing itself from any coalition or merger efforts. Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed clarified, “The PDP will not join any coalition or merger,” while stressing that the party remains open to welcoming individuals or groups that align with its vision.
Further, the PDP has set May 27 for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and scheduled its national convention for August 28–30 in Kano. The forum also announced the appointment of Setonji Koshedo as Acting National Secretary.
Meanwhile, PDP Board of Trustees member, Bode George, has opposed any potential Atiku candidacy in 2027, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the party’s zoning arrangement. “Atiku cannot be a PDP presidential candidate. There is zoning that must be respected. The North had eight years. The South should have eight years,” George insisted.
The PDP has yet to comment officially on Governor Eno’s statement supporting Tinubu’s two-term ambition.
