Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has ordered the dissolution of all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state with immediate effect.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Enobong Uwah, announced the decision on Thursday in Uyo, citing the governor’s powers under Section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023.
“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours and commends them for their roles in advancing the ARISE agenda,” Uwah stated.
He directed chairpersons of the affected agencies to hand over government property to the most senior officers in their establishments.
Governor Eno had earlier hinted at the move during the state’s 37th anniversary in 2024, noting that both the executive council and boards would be dissolved when the time was right. He assured that commissioners and board members would not be taken by surprise, as a valedictory session would be held in due course to appreciate their contributions.
