Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has restored two parcels of land to the family of late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, two years after their revocation by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The properties, located at No. 9 Abakpa GRA and No. 1 Degel Road, Ungwan Rimi GRA, were initially seized in 2022 over alleged violations of the Right of Occupancy terms.
Reuben Atabo, the Abacha family’s lawyer, disclosed that the revocation had been legally contested, citing the embarrassment caused to the family name.
In reinstatement letters dated December 10, 2024, addressed to Mohammed Sani Abacha via R.O. Atabo, SAN & Company, Governor Sani instructed the titleholders to settle outstanding ground rent fees.
The first letter reinstated the title for No. 9 Abakpa GRA, while the second restored rights to the Degel Road property. Both directives emphasized compliance with pending financial obligations as a condition for the reinstatement.
Governor Sani’s decision, exercised under the powers of the Land Use Act of 1978, marks a resolution to the dispute over the Abacha family’s property in Kaduna State.
